Adobe GoLive (M, W) No longer supported. Formerly GoLive CyberStudio. For a time, was Dreamweaver’s main competition.
NetObjects Fusion (M, W) $150. NetObjects WYSIWYG editor for professional Web masters.
Microsoft FrontPage (M, W) $170. WYSIWYG Editor from Microsoft Corporation. FrontPage Express is also included with Microsoft Office.
Visual Site Designer $49. CoffeeCup. They also have a text editor; see below.
Netscape Composer No longer available. Used to be included with Netscape Communicator
Corel HoTMetaL (M, W) $100, WYSIWYG editor that creates standard, universal (X)HTML and XML. Formerly from Softquad.

BBEdit (M) $120. Excellent HTML editor from Bare Bones Software. The most popular non-WYSIWYG HTML editor.
The HTML Editor (W) $49. CoffeeCup. They also have a WYSIWYG editor; see above.
HotDog Professional (W) No longer available, Sausage Software.
Macromedia Homesite (W) No longer available. Formerly Allaire HomeSite. Popular text-based HTML editor for Windows, once included free with Dreamweaver.
World Wide Web Weaver (M, W) No longer supported, Miracle Software

Adobe Photoshop Elements (Mac, Windows) $100. A remarkably robust, consumer-end version of the excellent Adobe Photoshop
Macromedia Fireworks $300. A specialized graphics program for creating Web images
Macromedia Flash $500. Designed for creating Web animations.
Paint Shop Pro (W) $100. Jasc Software. Powerful image editing program for Windows. Commercial and shareware versions available. Supports JPEG, PNG, GIF.
GraphicConverter (M) $35. Thorsten Lemke’s image editor for Macintosh. Reads and writes an incredible array of graphics formats, including Progressive JPEG, GIF89a (Animated), etc.
LView Pro (W) $40. Popular shareware graphics program.
